Cape Stillo – The Southernmost Tip of Albania

Cape Stillo (Latitude 39° 41′ 03″ N, Longitude 19° 59′ 02″ E) is the southernmost cape of Albania, jutting out into the Ionian Sea about 7 cables (approx. 1.3 km) southwest from the general coastline. The cape is rocky and forms a rounded point, reaching an elevation of 269 meters above sea level, located 2 nautical miles north-northwest of its tip.

The coastline around the cape is high and steep, with deep waters close to shore. The 5-meter depth contour lies just 40–50 meters from the coastline, while the 20-meter depth contour stretches out 220–225 meters. The seabed near the cape is clear of underwater hazards, making navigation safer. Cape Stillo is accessible by foot via a path that connects it to the nearby village of Vrina.

The Islet of Stillo

Located about 3 cables (approx. 550 meters) southeast of Cape Stillo, this small rocky islet is partially covered in shrubs. It runs parallel to the shore, about 1 cable (approx. 185 meters) south of the cape itself. The islet measures about 150 meters in length and 60–65 meters in width.

The waters around the islet are uniform in depth, with the 5-meter contour lying 20–25 meters from shore. The depth between the islet and the mainland is approximately 7.3 meters, making it accessible for small boats.

The Strait of Bati

The Strait of Bati is a small inlet located between Cape Stillo to the south and Cape of Saint Michael to the north. This strait extends inland in a northeast direction for about 3 cables (approx. 550 meters) with a mouth width of 0.6 cables (approx. 110 meters).

The strait offers shelter for small vessels from northern, eastern, and southeastern winds and waves, though it remains open to the southwest and partially to the south.

Within 3 cables from shore on either cape flanking the strait, there are three groups of fish farming tanks. These are marked with day signs and illuminated at night. Navigators must exercise caution, keeping a distance of 2–3 cables from the fish farm installations when passing.
