Jale Beach (Plazhi i Jalës)
Jale Beach and the Gorge of Vuno are connected to the village of Vuno via paved roads. This is where the coastal road passes, linking the four nearby villages with Vlora and Saranda.
To the north of Cape Lera lies the Jali Gorge of Vuno, formed by the coastline curving 1 nautical cable to the east, with a width of 1.5 cables at its entrance. The southern and northern shores of the gorge are rocky, while the eastern shore is low and serves as a beach.
The gorge has become a tourist hub, especially popular in the summer with young people and visitors from both inside and outside Albania. On the eastern and northern sides of the shore, there are beautiful buildings, many built in recent years in a modern architectural style, including three or four hotels. The eastern shore is lined with gardens and fruit trees such as citrus and olives.
At the top of the Cape Mërtiri hill, the military vacation house has been built. This area includes several attractive buildings that are visible from the sea. Along the shoreline of this cape, inside the bay from northwest to southeast, a small concrete jetty in the shape of the letter “E” has been constructed. Facing the sea, it measures 32.9 meters in length (with only 15 meters of the northwest section usable), and it ranges in width from 4.5 to 6.1 meters. The depths near the jetty range from 1.8 meters at the northwestern tip to 1.3 meters. The usable length of the jetty is approximately 15 meters. Landmarks for approaching the jetty include the buildings and hotels on the southwestern and eastern parts of the bay.
Depths in the Jale Gorge
The depths in the gorge are generally good. The 5-meter depth line runs almost along the northern and southern shores, while on the eastern shore, it lies 40–50 meters from the beach. Small motorboats can dock directly onto the rocky southern shoreline, where remnants of an old pier are still visible. The gorge is sheltered from northern, eastern, and southeastern winds, though it is open to the west.
To the northwest of Jale, the Gjipe Stream empties into the sea. It has a deep bed and is 200 meters wide at the mouth, flanked by steep, high cliffs that reach up to 150 meters in height, with nearly vertical slopes. The stream is visible from the sea from 2–3 nautical miles away.
