St. Vasili Bay

St. Vasili Bay is located on the eastern side of the Karaburun Peninsula. It lies to the west, approximately 10 kilometers from the Port of Vlora.

Specifically, within the small bay formed by Cape St. Vasili, there is a quay. Perpendicular to the shoreline, running east to west, a concrete pier has been built for anchoring ships. Its dimensions are 66 meters in length and 5 meters in width, and it is used on both sides.

On the northern side, at the western end of the pier, the water depth is 0.3 meters; in the middle, it is 3.5 meters; and at the eastern end, 5.5 meters. On the southern side, the depth at the western end is 0.6 meters; in the middle, 3 meters; and at the eastern end, 5.5 meters. The pier is currently in need of repairs.

At St. Vasili Bay, there is a restaurant where visitors can enjoy a variety of food and drinks. The bay also features a beach where sunbeds and umbrellas are available for rent.

St. Vasili Bay is one of the most frequently visited destinations by tourist boats and speedboats, largely due to the presence of the restaurant and other services offered at the site.

Protection and Navigation at St. Vasili Bay

Thanks to the shape of the coastline, vessels can safely dock at the pier, protected from southern quadrant winds. Southeast of Cape St. Vasili, about 1.5 nautical miles away, is Cape Sevasin. The Sevasin Lighthouse (latitude 40° 22’.5 N and longitude 19° 24’.3 E) stands in a prominent location above the coastline, 1.1 nautical miles northwest of Ragusa Bay. The lighthouse is an octagonal gray concrete tower, 6 meters tall. The height of the light above sea level is 55 meters, and its range is 8 nautical miles.

The Southern Side of St. Vasili Bay

Approximately 2.9 nautical miles southeast of Cape St. Vasili is Cape Pylli. About 3 cable lengths (kab) south of Cape Pylli lies Cape Ragusa, which is the most prominent cape in the area. It extends 2 cable lengths eastward and has an elevation of 72 meters.
